Learning Networks connects discipline communities to address national learning and teaching priorities. The current priority is academic standards for higher degree programs conducted under the auspices of the Learning and Teaching Academic Standards Project (LTASP).

Learning Networks addresses three of ALTC’s designated responsibilities by:

  • Providing mechanisms for discipline leadership bodies and networks to:

    • address learning and teaching issues of significance to the Australian higher education sector

    • identify and share best practice in areas of national priority in learning and teaching.

  • Building mutually beneficial relationships with:

    • sector-wide bodies to support information dissemination, share expertise and participate in collaborative partnerships

    • higher education providers and their representative bodies to share information on ALTC projects and funding opportunities

    • international organisations with a similar mission to ALTC to share best practice and promote recognition of Australia’s best practice.

Learning Networks continues the discipline-specific focus taken by the Discipline-Based Initiatives (DBI). The DBI Scheme encouraged innovation and greater sharing of learning and teaching within and across discipline-based learning communities by supporting discipline-specific development, dissemination and application of good practice.
